THE IMPACT OF AUTOCRATIC LEADERSHIP ON TEAM DYNAMICS
This study examines the impact of autocratic leadership on team dynamics. Objectives include: (1) evaluating the effectiveness of autocratic leadership in decision-making, (2) analyzing its impact on team cohesion and morale, and (3) assessing the long-term effects on team performance. A survey design is employed to gather data from a broad population. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 320 is derived, ensuring comprehensive coverage. The case study focuses on the construction industry in Lagos, Nigeria, where quick decision-making is often necessary. The reliability coefficient score is 0.85, indicating high reliability. Findings show that autocratic leadership can lead to efficient decision-making but often negatively impacts team dynamics, resulting in lower morale and cohesion. Recommendations include combining autocratic leadership with participative approaches to improve team dynamics while maintaining decision-making efficiency.
